Neuropsychological Evaluations - FAQ

Why should I pursue a neuropsychological evaluation?

People of all ages seek private neuropsychological evaluations. Results help clients  and their families understand individual capacity, skills, and needs. Specific areas of assessment include:

  • Problem solving
  • Memory
  • Language
  • Planning, organization, and focus (i.e. executive function processing)
  • Attention and focus
  • Mood, emotion, and behavior regulation
  • Social interaction and relationships
  • Visual motor coordination
  • Academic achievement

My evaluations contain detailed recommendations that help clients understand and  prioritize relevant supports and interventions.

Do you have areas of specialty?

Yes! I evaluate children (ages 6+), adolescents, college students, and adults. My areas of clinical expertise include:

  • Learning disabilities (reading/dyslexia, math/dyscalculia, and writing/dyspraxia)
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Challenges with executive function processing
  • Autism
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

What is the time commitment?

Intake Meeting. The evaluation process begins with a one hour intake meeting, during which a detailed developmental, social, educational and occupational (when applicable) history is gathered. The intake appointment is for parents only when the evaluation is planned for a child or adolescent.

Evaluation Sessions. Following the first appointment, two separate in-person evaluation sessions will be scheduled, each will last approximately three hours.

Feedback Meeting. A one hour feedback meeting will follow shortly after the final in-person evaluation session, during which findings will be discussed. An extensive report will follow approximately 4-6 weeks after the feedback session.

Will you communicate with my child's school?

Collaboration with schools is essential. With parent permission, I ask teachers to complete questionnaires. I am also available to speak with school teams as needed so I can develop a comprehensive understanding of clients' classroom presentation. I often share results in school team meetings, and consult with school-based professionals.

Do you accept insurance for evaluations?

I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Many PPO plans with other insurance companies provide members with out of network benefits and clients can obtain reimbursement for out of pocket costs.  I will supply clients with an itemized receipt (i.e. a superbill) to facilitate the reimbursement process.  I do not directly submit billing materials to insurance companies other than Blue Cross Blue Shield.
